How Winaday Casino Fits in with the History of Slot Games
Did you know that the first slot games were invented in the late 19th century? Most people credit Charles Fey with inventing the slot machine when he was looking for a way to generate an automatic payout for a poker hand.
The first slot machines
Charles Fey quickly discovered that there were so many ways to win at a game of poker, that it was impossible to develop a machine to dispense an automatic payout for every winning combination. To solve the problem, he instead developed a machine with three spinning reels and five symbols. This allowed him to develop a successful payout mechanism. The highest payout available on these early machines was ten nickels.
This development was so popular that demand quickly outpaced Fey's ability to create the game. In 1907, Herbert Mills created a new machine known as the Operator Bell, which was quickly installed throughout the country in saloons, brothels, bowling alleys, and cigar stores.
There were also other popular slot games developed around the time, such as a trade stimulator which would give out winnings in the form of flavored gum, which is often seen as the inspiration for the cherry and melon symbols often seen on slot machines.
The development of the modern slot machine
Bally was able to develop the first fully electromechanical slot machine, known as Money Honey, in 1963. In 1976 the first true video slot machine was developed in California by a group of men working for Fortune Coin Co. The first units were tested in the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. It underwent some modifications for 'cheating proof', and then was approved by the Nevada State Gaming Commission. In the 1990s other distinguishable features, such as 'second screen' bonus rounds began to make their appearances.
Following the development and growth of the internet, instant play casinos quickly began to spring up, as casinos provided their slot games online to reach more people. These online slot machine games allowed people to play from the privacy of their own homes, often for fun or for real money.
